After reading both opinions, tell me which of the writers you agree with and why. Please try to use their words (like quotes from a book) to back up your opinion.

Your comments should be about 2-3 sentences. Who do you agree with? Why do you agree with them? What made them so convincing?

I agree with the guy because the colleges have the right to know where you stand. Other than looking at grades. The guys editorial was pretty much straight forward because you gotta take the test anyway if you want to get into the college.

I agree with Jill Tiefenthaler, in that SAT scores don't take the full measure of a high school student. Just because someone does well on the SAT doesn't mean they will do well in college and just because someone does bad on the SAT doesn't mean that they will do bad in the college. "First-generation students with fabulous high school records and no access to the test preparation industry" these student would not have had a less likely chance of getting into the college even though they are better than some of the other students who got a higher score on the SAT.

  5. I believe that this man makes a very good argument. The statistics shown were good evidence and supported his opinion. I feel, as a student, that it is necessary to take SAT's for college admission. It will broaden our learning capabilities and will make us feel more comfortable in the college environment.

I believe that this woman's article is mainly oppinionated and she did not support her thesis with proper evidence. Unlike Mr. Caperton, she did not prove her argument, therefore, I disagree with her statement. If students were to not take an SAT, then college's decisions would be based on our grades. I believe it is better to base a students ability off of more examples and activities than to base it off a smaller amount of facts.

  7. I see no poiunts in the SAT, every student can study as hard as other. SAT it just only a test like no other test. The only helping the student is giving them time time to study for what they need in the future not putting something like the SAT and give them more pressure.

  8. I think that these tests are necessary in this day of age as this writer has given valuable reasons for them being needed. I believe that the more data is good to have but not necessary. Quality over quantity in my opinion is better.

After reading this se cond article my opinion has been tested. I believe that this writer makes several good points as to why the tests should not be a factor in college admissions. The tests dont tell colleges about our personalities and I think personality counts but scores and ability to achieve in the classroom/real world matters more. Overall I think the Sat test should be considered in the admission process but not be a deciding factor.

The Sat's are a necessary tool to help schools identify which students are actually capable to suceed in college. Though there should be exceptions to some knowing that there are even ones who have a great IQ but may not be able to pass Sat's

    2nd Blog No:
I don't exactly diasagree with what she's stating, but I do feel its right to change college admissions to give people who have great talents to get in college even without having a major IQ

  10. I don't think the SAT's are needed. SAT's just cause pressure for the student, that they dod not need.

  11. I disagree with Gaston Caperton i dont think people see the SAT of any significance anymore. It is just another BIG test that you have to do well in order to get into a "better" college. It is like an obligation that you have to do. The way it is set up its like only the best of people that can handle the twisted questions and complexity of the SAT can get into a better education.

  12. i agree with Jill because yeah student take the SAT's but some students get nervous and do bad on the test that doesn't mean that they dont no anything.so it shouldn't measure all of their smartness and were they stand academicly because they can be smart but just do bad on the test.

  13. i agreed with jill the sats are a huge test and dont fully show your intellectual capabilities. besides many very good students have problems with taking test. i personally would like to go to a college that does not judge me based on one test.

"Standardized tests were never intended to measure the complexities of intelligence, and over time they have drawn the center of gravity in college admissions away from things we value."

"This race leads to first-year students already experiencing academic burnout because their passions languished while their test skills were honed."

I honestly think that SAT's are not needed and only cause pressure, and if someone has a bad day its not fair that it effects college for them

  15. I agree with the man i do think that we should take the test to be able to determine the intelligence. Even thought i dont like taking test, if i tried hard enough then i would be able to past it. Because if you are not trying then you are obviously not gonna past the test.So if you really want to make it in life and become what you want to become then you will do almost everything to become what you watnt to become. So i agree with the man.

  16. In my opinion the test is the choice of own's mind. Therefore it's up to the young spirited mind whetere to take the test or not. I do highly recommend the students to take the test. it's like a choice like a student chooses to go to college. You know.

  17. i agree with the man beacause the SATs will help the students know their level in studying and study harder. And the SATs helps the students prepare for their future so that they will know what they're doing. the SATs results may be different for each students. Some student may get the high score and help them succeed in college. And to some students, it can be nightmare which the result came out not as they expect.but it will help them to study harder.

  18. I agree, schools should have SAT. If you get a high SAT score u can go to a top college, if u get a low score then... .Colleges need to know wether you can keep up with the other students at the college and no fall behind

i am not to sure of either. test scores mean only so much, a test is known to be to see if your smart or not. and though sometimes we fail tests it doesnt mean that we dont know anything about the subject. i can see both point of views on this. but ide most likely say that it shouldnt matter, because it was in thepast, maybe people got bad grades, and can turn around and succeed but they cant because colleges wont want them because of their score.

  20. I agree with Gaston Caperton because like he said The SAT helps colleges know which students are most likely to succeed in college. The SAT offers a standarized level for admission. Adriana Lopez per.6

  21. I agree with Jill because every student has a bad day and every student also gets nervous during an important test. Some students might get bads test scores but that doesn't mean they are dumb.

I agree with ms. jill because they can't judge the capabilities of a student with just some test score. They should look more on their other qualities, abilities and talents rather than just the educational aspects of the student. ANd i have to agree that a day of testing doesn't really show how good you are since there could be an event that interfere on how you do things. an example would be if your sick on that day

  25. I agree with Jill Tiefenthaler that SATs are not really needed to get into a college. The reason why i agree with her is because when i take a test sometimes i freak out because I get nervous especially on important tests and then i end up doing bad.Jill said "personal interviews, reflective essays, letters of recommendation, and a thorough examination of high school curriculum and grades. These reveal more about intellectual ability and curiosity than the score on a test administered one Saturday morning" and i agree students have done more than enough to get into a college to just not be accepted if they don't do good on the SAT.
